Brisbane International Airport, Australia

Lend Lease carried out the works to complete a brand new International Airport in the Queensland capital of Brisbane, creating a high traffic density public building which would see millions of visitors each year.

A system was required which would ensure that the public, in case of an emergency accompanied with limited visibility, would be directed to designated points for safe evacuation. For security and décor reasons, the system had to be non-intrusive and therefore not visible in normal operating conditions.

Way Out installed a full range of evacuation materials, including luminous paint, stair nosing and safety signs which were fitted throughout the building’s long corridors, stairs, ramps and exits. The system was easily maintained and flexible, which catered for several changes that were made to the layout of the building after the opening. All of this was done using a system which was almost impossible to be seen in normal operating conditions.
