Water Activated Emergency Lighting System
WAELS is a worldwide patented emergency lighting system suited for use in particularly helicopters. The product uses a variety of water sensors to automatically activate door and window lights to ensure crew members are able to find an exit promptly. The technology uses fully luminous signs supplied by WAYOUT for added visibility and WAYOUT acts as the distributor for the product in the Asia – Pacific region.
Benefits of WAELS
- The system is immediately activated in both salt and fresh water and is visible in even the most turbid conditions.
- The design is failsafe in that each window and door unit is independently powered.
- The added safety of a flashing orientation light in case an aircraft inverts underwater.
- The cost benefit far outweighs other comparable systems which fail in underwater conditions which are often the most dangerous.
- Photoluminescent components which glow diffusely at night make exit points known to local personnel.
- Durability – system is fire/salt/sand/mould retardant.
- Operation to 50m water depth or 6 bar pressure absolute.
- Tested to withstand up to 40g peak deceleration.
- Designed to meet NATO STANAG 3870 and DEF STAN 0970.
- Whilst it has been originally designed for use on aircraft, the system can easily be remoulded to suit any “water ingress risk” environment. In addition, the product can be retrofitted into existing systems.
