WAYOUT Evacuation Systems Pty Ltd have developed a complete range of luminous “lumink™” products to assist personnel in the evacuation of high-rise buildings, ships, cinemas and airports.

These products have been specifically designed to provide a complete evacuation solution to enable occupants to vacate premises in minimum time with complete safety in the case of fire and smoke or blackout conditions. These solutions can be installed in high-rise buildings such as hotels, apartments, shopping complexes, hospitals and are particularly relevant for building stairwells.

The luminous material works on the principle of absorbing UV rays emitted by any external sources of light, normally the standard lights installed at the location. If the lights fail due to power blackout or smoke conditions, the lumink™ crystals within the luminous material give out their energy in the form of light to provide a clear path to the exits. The systems are environmentally friendly, are not powered by external means and are always active.

The list of luminous Evacuation products is extensive and includes:

  • Anti-slip stair nosings with luminous insert (installed in Vodafone and Rod Laver Arenas)
  • Non-abrasive luminous tape to designate handrails.
  • Luminous paint to mark a visual guide on walls and door surrounds.
  • Luminous decals to fit over the existing EXIT signs to comply with AS 2293.1.
  • Luminous Signage to mark floor levels, fire doors, fire appliances.
  • Luminous / reflective safety vests to AS /NZS 1906.4 - 1997.
  • Fire Safety Evacuation Plans (used in Whistler Hotels in Canada)

The lumink™ system has been used in many CBD buildings including: Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre, Shell House, Olympic Park, Royal Dental Hospital, NSW State Sports Centre, Brisbane International Airport Terminal

These products have also been approved for use by the Department of Defence for the Collins Class Submarines and Anzac Frigates, and also accepted for use in the main passenger ferry between Melbourne and Tasmania - Spirit of Tasmania.
