Why Aluminium?

A Maritime Safety Authority may request to have an "on site" test prior to approval of a system. This is the case in Australia. The system is partly installed and the area is blacked out and the system is visibly monitored for one hour to gauge the light discharge. The test is "Could a person be guided out of danger by the light discharge of the system?" This is repeated after the system is fully installed. Failure to satisfy this requirement would result in non acceptance of the Maritime Authority.

WAYOUT Evacuation Systems Pty Ltd has the technical ability to produce a PVC system, but rejected this approach because it believes that a PVC system would fail this "sight" test in low (5 lux) of light. The Lumink™ Aluminium Low Location lighting System will pass any test in the world. The challenge of the maritime Industry is with the operating conditions on board vessels. The Technical standards required to pass the lighting and the Vertical spread of flame tests are not difficult for a serious luminous manufacturer to pass. This is well accepted in the industry.

Maritime Safety Authorities are fully aware of the difference between the levels required to gain an approval under the regulations and the actual operating conditions found on vessels.

Signage

All existing Luminous signage is available. Signs for the back of cabin doors, fire extinguishers, muster station signs and all IMO signs are available in Aluminium.

Stairs

Stair stringers, top and bottom step are identified with luminous marking. Luminous Aluminium stair nosing is available for all stairs.

Lighting on Vessels

Photoluminescent products are to comply with IMO Resolution A752 (18) This requires material to be tested at 1020 lux of light. WAYOUT Evacuation Systems Pty LTD has completed lighting level tests, on the existing electrical lighting systems, in a number of passenger areas on The Spirit of Tasmania, Melbourne, Australia. A 1300 passenger and car ferry.

The attached test shows the actual levels of light range from 4.6 lux to 117 lux. (See attached report one.)

Any photoluminescent system, to be effective in normal operating conditions would be able to operate with these very low lighting conditions.
WAYOUT Evacuation Systems Pty LTD has complied with the lighting test at 1020 lux.

We conducted further tests at what we considered operating conditions. We tested our LumInk™ system at 6 lux of light and the result was that we exceeded the lighting requirements by three times the required levels.

No other company in the world has to our knowledge performed this test successfully.
